Why yes, we do smoke our own salmon… It’s nearly impossible to say without just a hint of smugness, but it is difficult to channel nonchalance when you can turn your fire pit into an incidental fish smoker. Let’s try our best not to show off as we banish slimy packets of store-bought smoked salmon from our homes forever.

Product Information

Sliding easily into our fire pit lugs, our Smoking Plank holder positions a wooden board over your fire pit, and the stainless steal clamp holds your fish fillet into place as it gently cures in the smoke. Our holder is made from high quality British steel and has three different positions so that you can decide the perfect angle to suspend your fish over your fire. There is a groove to channel juices away from the flames in order to avoid the flare-ups which can wreak havoc on your smoked salmon. The board is easily replaceable if it becomes too charred.

To use simply unscrew the stainless steel clamp from the board, place your fillet into the holder, reattached the clamp and slot the board into place over your fire pit.

Top tips:

• Dip your board into water before use
• Aim to keep your fish a minimum distance of 20cm away from the fire
• Keep the tail end of the fillet furthest away from the fire for a more even smoke
• Trial different types of wood to see which smoky flavour you prefer
• And no need for smoke signal strength wafts, a gentle fire will do

All our Plain Jane fire pits come with a spare slot to hold accessories like our Smoking Plank. You can also use our Smoking Plank in place of the second grill arm on our BBQ King and Box D fire pits. Or it can replace the Swing Arm BBQ Rack on our Ring of Logs, Pete’s Oven and Modular Kitchen Fire Bowls.

Maintaining your fire pit
NB: All our fire pits, lids and accessories will begin to rust immediately and will not maintain their black finish. However, this will not affect their long term durability. As all our fire pits are handmade from sheet steel which has naturally occurring blemishes, there may be very slight variations in the forging and finish.
